AirPlay lets you stream wirelessly from your iDevice to the Apple TV at a resolution of 720p HD only. Forget about AirPlay, if you want to stream wirelessly at higher quality, such as 1080p full HD.
To stream at full HD to an HDTV from your iPad 2, what you need is a wireless HDMI transmitter and a USB battery pack. Enthusiasts Eric Govoruhk and Kelly McAteer have done that by using the two simple devices, having full HD video played on iPad 2, successfully mirrored on their HDTV.
